Deuteronomy 31:6
CourageWhat Does Deuteronomy 31:6 Mean?
Moses spoke these words to the entire nation of Israel right before they entered the Promised Land — and right before he died. He knew he wouldn't be crossing the Jordan with them, so these were some of his final words. And what did he choose to say? Don't be afraid. God goes with you. He won't fail you. He won't abandon you.
There's something especially weighty about a dying leader's last words. Moses had seen God do impossible things — part the Red Sea, provide food in the desert, lead with fire and cloud. And after all of that, his summary was simple: God is faithful. He shows up. He doesn't quit on people.
"He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee" is a double promise. Not only will God not drop the ball, He won't walk away either. Some people fail you because they're not capable. Others abandon you because they stop caring. God does neither. He's both able and willing to stay. Whatever unknown territory lies ahead of you, you're not entering it alone, and the one going with you has never lost.
Context
Moses spoke these words at the end of his life to the Israelites gathered on the plains of Moab, just east of the Jordan River, as they prepared to finally enter Canaan without him.
